Fall Home Prep (How I Reset Our Home for Fall)

Okay, moms, the kids are officially back to school!  It's time to recenter, reset, and prep for the new season! In today’s episode, I go over what my Fall prep looks like and I hope this will inspire you to find what works best for you when gearing up for the Fall.

First, I go through and revamp all of the closets in our home, starting with the clothes.  I put away the summer clothes and bring out the fall clothes.

Next is sports equipment!  My son just finished up baseball and is starting football, so I pack away the baseball gear and make sure to have the football clothing and equipment out and ready to go.

Another thing I like to do is stock up on things I know I’m going to need for the next few months.  Things like snacks, drinks, quick meal ideas, cleaning products, paper towels, etc.  This way, if there is a busy week and I don’t have time to get to the store, I’m covered!

The next thing I do is go through the pantry.  I get rid of any expired foods, wipe down all the shelves, and do a quick organizing touch-up.

I then move on to my office.  I get rid of papers I no longer need, catch up on the filing, and wipe down the shelves and desk. I also make sure I have enough ink and paper for the next few months.  Something fun I like to do is put out one or two cute fall decorations in my office for a fresh, new-season feel.

Then I look at my calendar and my commitments for the next few months and I brainstorm ideas and think about how I want to use my time, how I want to serve the people I am working with, and I make sure my schedule reflects my vision.  This puts me in control of my time and my calendar.  That way when new things pop up or people ask me to make a commitment, if it doesn’t fall into the vision I have for the year, I can say no.  *Check out my episode (#106) on time management for more tips here: THE PODCAST - Jennifer Ford Berry*

A lot of this comes down to habits and today in Created Order Neighborhood, my online coaching program, we were talking about habits and how cool it is to know we can change our habits at any given moment.  Habit stacking can really help! I really encourage all of you to look at Fall as a time to reflect on who you want to be this new season, what are your main priorities, what kind of person you want to be, what’s your identity going to be, what habits do you want to change, what habits do you want to keep, and how can you start to go through your home environment and get it set and ready to live that kind of lifestyle?

Give yourself time today, tomorrow, and sometime soon, to write down the things you could do ahead of time to make your environment more organized for this new season.  Think about how you can do your own Fall prep. If you take the time to do this now, you will save yourself so much time and energy throughout the next several months. You will be able to be more present and enjoy the time more when you are not scattered and running around and wondering how you're going to get everything done or stay organized.  This is a great time to do it.

This might be a good time to introduce a new chore list, set up auto-pay on your bills, and think outside the box for anything that will make your life easier. That is the key to living in the present season and really being able to soak it all up and not feel like you are rushing so much you can’t enjoy it.

I just did a really cool back-to-school master class on how to get more organized for the back-to-school time with lots of tips and tricks to take this Fall prep idea to a whole new level. It is really helpful and will inspire you and it will give you some new ways to organize not only your home and school supplies and your kids but also your time. I really hope you check it out! You don’t want to miss out because before you know it, we will be in the Holiday Season!  I want you to be present during the Holidays and this is how we do it. We don’t wait until the last minute.  We get our stuff in order. We get our time in order and then we make life happen the way we want it to happen instead of just sitting in the back seat blindly following a path we aren’t even sure is going to land us in a destination we want to be in!  So I encourage you to check it out!

God bless you all during this beginning of the school year. I hope all of you and your kids stay healthy and safe and I hope you have an amazing year!
